American Idol

There is only so much you can say about seeing a personal creative influence and entertainment idol in person before you sound completely obnoxious and overly obsessive (take a look at the end of yesterday’s entry, for instance). The fact is, Joss Whedon is still one human being among billions, so let’s not get carried away with ourselves.
That said, I’m fairly certain I reaffirmed to my friends that I was “geeking the fuck out” every ten to fifteen minutes. I’m not going to recap my adventure as there isn’t much to tell besides the fact that I was in good company, had good pizza and fro-yo, sadly missed Joss talking to the long line outside (I got there as they were letting people in, but I still got pretty damn good seats), still think a sing-along is better with a smaller crowd, and am genuinely impressed with Whedon’s humility, modesty, constant humor and most importantly, unrelenting honesty.
Here’s a recap of the event (with pics and video!) from the ever-awesome Buffyfest.
I think we all would’ve liked an audience Q&A and some closer one-on-one, but Ira Glass did one helluva job. Thanks again to 826NYC, Joss Whedon, and my pal Chel for alerting me to this awesomeness (and buying me a bloody ticket!).
The best thing I got out of this, in particular — and ironically in correlation with yesterday’s blog about my returning to direction — is how Joss admitted how un-leader-ly he felt he was in college and in his first season of Buffy. It reminds me of my own foibles and concerns as a director, still trying to find my footing, and how, when push comes to shove, I know I will rise to the challenge.
The worst thing out of this?
I want to write a musical.
